Women, Leadership & Power

There are three simple strategies that women can use to develop their leadership influence and impact thus increasing their power in the arena they play in.

These strategies include:

1. Leverage the power of their story of experiences to build influence.

2. Continue to rescript the stories they tell themselves about themselves to develop and nurture the mental and emotional state necessary to maximize the best of who they are.

3. Begin with the end in mind and develop and consistently execute a strategy of actions that help them to build momentum and make progress towards the achievement of desired outcomes and goals.

The Power of Your Story

You can’t change what’s going on outside of you, until you change what’s going on inside of you.

The perception that you have about yourself or any experience influences what you believe, think and how you view yourself and respond to what you are experiencing.

The stories that you tell yourself about yourself, your capabilities and worth create a perception of yourself that either expands your horizons in life or they diminishes your hope in the possibility of new possibilities which often leads you to settling for the status quo. Your self image is your identity and your identity defines your destiny.

Because your perception of yourself or any experience is always a reflection of the dominant story taking place in your mind, it is your responsibility to challenge and transform beliefs and assumptions that are stumbling blocks to you maximizing the best of who you are.

When you do the inner work to change a disempowering story, your action will change your perception. When you adopt an open mind and heart to expand your perception of yourself or an experience, you begin to interpret and respond to life as someone who is leading herself versus being a victim of circumstances. When you adopt a life affirming, progressive response to life, you begin to experience different and often better outcomes.

Managing Your State of Mind

According to Tony Robbins, “State of mind” is defined as the quality of one’s consciousness as it relates to the outside world, as well as the perception of their inner thoughts and emotions. When you’re in control of your state of mind, you’re the master of your emotions and you understand that life is happening for you, not to you."

Managing our state of mind has a lot to do with moving our body. I accidently learned this after losing my mom at the age of 13. After several months of emotional eating I had gained 20 pounds. When I shifted the story that I was telling myself about the loss of my mom and started to focus on the strengths that I'd admire about her and began to emulate them based on my limiting understanding at the time, I began to feel different.

I decided to start counting my calories and started exercising daily after I ate supper. Over the course of three months I had loss the extra weight I had gained, stopped my emotional eating habit and felt stronger in my faith, my mind and body which nurtured a trust in my ability to figure out how to move beyond the pain from losing my mom and make her proud as to how I lived my life.

Tony Robbins says, "Emotion is created by motion. In other words, emotions are linked to movement in our bodies. Observe your posture when you are happy, as opposed to when you are sad — or what you look like when you are angry, versus when you are elated. There’s a difference, right? Your body language sends signals to your brain, and the rest of the world, about how you’re feeling and operating. It is not only in your physical appearance but also in your brain. If you have a poor posture, it only lends itself to poor emotions, or a negative state. Good posture and alertness produce a more positive state."

Managing our state of mind is also linked to the dominant beliefs and thoughts we have about ourselves and our experiences. Which is why being aware of the stories that we tell ourselves over and over again is important too.

Regardless of the challenges you are facing right now, if you decided to exercise your freedom of choice and choose to see them from the perspective of "life is happening for me", you will begin to become curious about how the challenge is designed to help you learn, grow and lead yourself in a more expansive way.

This perspective would shift how you show up to the challenge.

Strategizing Your Next Best Moves

When you think about who you are when you are the most engaged and effective, what are the character traits, habits and skills you demonstrate?

Are you demonstrating those character traits, habits and skills right now towards your challenges and opportunities?

How do you want to feel as a leader?

What are your short term vs. long term leadership goals?

What is the impact you want to have as a leader?

Do you have an end goal in mind when it pertains to the actions you are taking right now in your career or business?

What are the actions you are consistently implementing to build your personal brand of influence?

Do others perceive you as a leader worth following?

What success system will you need to develop and execute consistently to become a woman of influence based on your strengths and goals?

Your answers to these questions will provide you with clues to your next best moves. Your answers will help you to determine if you are being intentional towards your leadership success or you are expecting it to occur by happenstance.

In Conclusion

It is a proven fact, women go further, faster when they come together to achieve meaningful goals with the support of other women who value the synergy created by collaboration versus being a lone wolf.

There is nothing more frustrating than knowing you are capable of more only to find yourself grinding day in and day out without making progress towards your desired goals. You know this. i know this. I believe you are ready to maximize this moment by becoming intentional about the leader you want to become. I believe you are ready to show up, stand-out and succeed in a bigger way.
